Welcome to the "Living Life" Immersive Action Project, a heartfelt initiative by Blackfoot Prints that seeks to illuminate the rich, yet often overlooked, narratives of families residing in New York City’s public housing, particularly in the Low Side and large cluster concentrations. This project is designed to engage, educate, and empower participants to connect with the lived experiences of these vibrant communities.
We believe that every story matters. The families living in public housing hold a wealth of untold experiences—stories of resilience, creativity, and community that deserve to be shared and celebrated. Through our immersive actions, we aim to bring these narratives to the forefront, fostering understanding and appreciation for the diverse tapestry of life in our urban landscape.
For this archiving project we are specifically seeking individuals who have currently or used to live in public housing located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan who identify with the Pan African Community.
Storytelling Workshops: Participants will engage in storytelling sessions where residents of public housing share their personal experiences with recorded video. These workshops will encourage dialogue and foster connections between community members and participants.
Cultural Archiving: As part of our project, we will create a living archive that documents the stories, traditions, and cultural practices of families in public housing. This archival work will serve as a valuable resource for future generations and a testament to the strength of these communities.
People Portraits: The project will include a collection of people portraits that will be capture families, friends, and groups in the community. Participants can submit photos are participate in scheduled photoshoots.
